Adapted Programs by Can Play
Who We Serve
- Can Play's mission is to empower individuals with physical, cognitive, or emotional disabilities, as well as those with chronic health conditions and autism.
What is Adapted Recreation?
- A program that has been modified to meet the needs of a specific group of participants. This could be through equipment, content and rules, structure, support, or environment.
What We Do
- Since 2012, Can Play has empowered thousands of children of all ages and abilities to play. By adapting the pace, style, and rules of the game, we ensure inclusivity and safety in all of their programs.
- Adapted Programs provide communities with plug-and-play licensed solutions. Our innovative online toolkit revolutionizes how community recreation programs cater to children living with disabilities, autism, or chronic health conditions.
Our Approach
- We offer training videos, support, and resources to simplify the implementation of our plug-and-play adapted program in your community recreation program.
- We offer four different adaptation descriptors to cater to a wide range of abilities.
- Our programs divide participants into groups of LIKEability™ and PLAYability™, creating a level playing field for everyone.
LIKEability™
Participants with similar abilities grouped together to work through specially adapted stations for their pace of play.
PLAYability™
Participants divided into equal groups of varying abilities to balance team play or group game(s).
Testimonials
From Parents
I’ve seen him grow, not only physically in what he’s learned through the classes, but also socially it’s really had a strong impact on his social skills, not only in classes when he attends, but also has carried through into his daily life as well.
Can Play has impacted my daughter by having a sense of community, meeting other peers, and having a sense of belongingness. She is not able to participate in streamlined sports but this gives her an outlet and she is most definitely tall when it comes to Can Play.
From Participants
Can Play helped me be able to express myself because I realized people will accept me for who I am. (My Can Play friends are) just like me and close to me and well, you know, just feel like I fit in.
From a Park & Rec Department
