Adapted Programs

Recreational activities specifically designed to be inclusive and accessible for individuals with disabilities, ensuring everyone can participate and enjoy.

Adaptive Equipment

Specialized tools and devices designed to assist individuals with disabilities in participating in recreational activities. These can include modified sports gear, communication aids, and other supportive devices.

Developmental Disabilities

A group of conditions due to an impairment in physical, learning, language, or behavior areas. These conditions begin during the developmental period, may impact day-to-day functioning, and usually last throughout a person’s lifetime. Examples include autism spectrum disorder, Down syndrome, and cerebral palsy.

Inclusive Recreation

Recreational activities that are designed to be accessible and welcoming to individuals of all abilities, ensuring that everyone can participate together in a supportive environment.

Neuro-Diverse

A term that refers to the diversity of human brains and minds, highlighting the unique differences in neurological functioning among individuals, including those with autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and other neurological variations.

Can Play Coaching Terms

Hand Over Hand

Providing physical assistance to a participant by placing one’s hands over the participant’s to help them perform a given task.

LIKEabilityTM

Participants with similar abilities grouped together to work through specially adapted stations for their pace of play.

Physical Assistance

The use of equipment or assistance from another person to help a participant perform a given task when they are not physically able to complete it independently.

PLAYabilityTM

Participants divided into equal groups of varying abilities to balance team play or group game(s).
